Accolades:

  • Tabbed to 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Men's and At-Large Third Team, becoming the first-ever UMBC men's lacrosse student-athlete to earn the nation's most-recognized academic honor
  • Selected to 2018 America East First Team and All-Academic Team
  • Named to the 2018 America East Winter-Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll
  • Earned UMBC President’s List honors in first five semesters
  • Tabbed to the 2017 America East Winter/Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

 

2021

  • Named a team captain for the second consecutive year
  • Made a pair of starts and finished his tenure with 28 starts in 29 games played
  • Had not played since April 27, 2018 when he drew the starting assignment in the opener versus Mount St. Mary’s
  • Collected a pair of ground balls versus the Mountaineers
  • Suffered a season-ending injury midway through the 4OT game versus Stony Brook

 

2020: 

  • Named a team captain alongside Jason Brewster and Ryan Frawley
  • Did not compete for the second consecutive season after suffering an injury during spring practice
  • Earned the team’s GRIT award for the core value of “Teamwork.”  

 

2019:

  • Suffered a foot injury in the preseason, underwent surgery and did not compete during the championship season.  

 

2018:

  • Started all 13 contests
  • Finished second on the team with 14 caused turnovers
  • Caused a career-high three miscues at Mount St. Mary’s on Feb. 23
  • Amassed a career-high six ground balls and caused two turnovers versus UMass Lowell
  • Also caused a pair of turnovers in games versus Michigan and Binghamton. 

 

2017:

  • First-year player started all 14 games at close defense
  • Recorded 11 ground balls, four caused turnovers and only committed a pair of miscues and three penalties
  • Corralled a pair of ground balls in his collegiate debut at UN
  • Played a dominant game versus UMass Lowell, garnering a season-high four ground balls and causing a miscue.

 

Background:  Led the Liberty Lions to the state championship his senior year… A two-time First Team All-County selection by The Carroll County Times… A member of the 2015 Under Armour Underclassmen All-American (Baltimore) team… Lists his best performance when his team won the 2015 state semi-final game against Southern AA in overtime and he contributed three takeaways and a pair of goals… Played varsity football and was a 2016 All-State (honorable mention) defensive lineman… Earned a 4.5 weighted grade-point average in high school… A member of the National Honor Society… Graduated fifth in his class…Has a younger brother, Jake… Lists favorite food as pizza and his favorite pro team as the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens … Son of Christine and David Griffin.
