Biography

Accolades: (2016) Named to America East Conference Winter-Spring Honor Roll. 

 

2017: Competed in all 14 games and served as one of the squad’s top short-stick defensive midfielders… Posted career best with 13 ground balls and added four caused miscues… Scored his first career goal in the Retrievers’ 15-4 rout over Mercer… Collected at least one ground ball in each of the first eight games of the campaign.

 

2016: Competed in the final 11 contests of the campaign… Tied for team lead with four ground balls and added two caused turnovers – both career bests -  at Lafayette on April 2… UMBC was 3-0 in games in which he forced a miscue.

 

2015: Defensive midfielder who competed in nine contests… Recorded four ground balls… Contributed an assist in the April 18 victory over UMass Lowell. 

 

Background:  Began his high school tenure at Winters Mill and completed his studies at the St. Paul’s School… Part of St. Paul’s squad which earned a spot in the MIAA title game in the spring of 2014… Also earned three letters in soccer… Considering a career in criminal justice… Selected UMBC because ”[it] provided me with an opportunity to push myself to my fullest potential both athletically and academically… Lists favorite book as American Sniper and favorite movie as Gladiator… Has a younger brother, Jeremy… Son of Chris and Joe Witzler.
