Biography

Accolades: (2016) Named to America East Conference Winter-Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll. (2017) Selected as a team captain... Named to America East Second Team, All-Academic Team and All-Tournament Team. (2018) Earned America East Second Team honors… Named to the America East Winter-Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll… (2019) Named one of the team’s captains for the third consecutive year... (2020) Became the first known student-athlete history to be named a team captain on four occasions.  

 

2020: After a long rehab, he returned to his starting position on the Retriever close defense… Collected 13 ground balls and caused eight miscues in five starts… Best effort was a 3-ground ball, 3-CT performance in the victory over Towson… Committed only one turnover in five contests… Earned the team’s GRIT award for the core value of “Growth.”

 

2019: Suffered an ACL injury in 2018 fall workouts and did not compete… Did complete his degree requirements in mathematics and is now working on a minor in political science.

 

2018: Started all 13 games at close defense and has competed in all 41 games in three seasons… Scored the game’s final goal to wrap up 9-6 win over Richmond in the opener… Recorded three ground balls and caused a season-high three miscues in 8-6 setback to Towson… Completed a summer internship at the Institution for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii at Manoa , conducting research on SuperMassive Black Holes at the center of galaxies.

 

2017: Sophomore tri-captain moved full-time to close defense and started all 14 contests… Finished second on the squad with 16 caused turnovers and tied for fourth with 24 ground balls… Placed sixth in America East and 64th nationally in caused miscues (1.14) per game… Made a huge splash in the opener at UNC, causing a career and team season-high five turnovers versus the defending national champions… Corralled a pair of face-offs a week later at Hopkins… Recorded four ground balls and two caused turnovers at Richmond on Feb. 18… Scored his second career goal to bring UMBC to within 8-6 with 50 seconds remaining versus Towson on March 4… Capped the campaign by causing three turnovers in the America East Tournament versus Binghamton. 

 

2016:  Acquitted himself very well in his freshman campaign, competing in all 14 games… Saw action as a long-stick defensive midfielder and a face-off specialist… Made his debut at the face-off “x” at Towson and recorded season-best four ground balls… Won (7) and attempted (27) season highs in face-offs at Vermont on April 16… Also scored his first collegiate goal against the Catamounts…  Recorded three ground balls each in contests versus Penn and UML.

 

Background: Selected as the 2014 Valley League Player of the Year after his junior season… Led team to the California Interscholastic Federation championship that season… Earned USA Today All-California honors a year later… A three-year varsity captain for the Jaguars… Earned First Team All-Valley League honors at both defense (2013, 2015) and attack (2014)… Amassed over 100 ground balls each season while shining on defense and tallied 69 goals and 29 assists during his sterling 2014 campaign… Also lettered in football… Earned CIF Academic Team honors after carrying a 4.0 grade-point average throughout high school… Enjoys sushi and lists favorite movie as Interstellar... Has one older brother, James, who played lacrosse at UC-Irvine… Son of Lisa and Jim Brewster.
