Biography

Accolades: (2018) Named to the America East Winter-Spring Honor Roll.

2018: Won (71) and attempted (195) the most draws on the team for the second consecutive campaign… Also second on the squad with 32 ground balls… Needs two face-off wins for 200 in his career… Won nine draws and corralled six ground balls in the opening-game win over Richmond… Captured 8-of-13 face-offs in AE opener versus Stony Brook… Scooped up career-best 10 ground balls and won a season-best 14 (of 21) draws versus UMass Lowell.  

 

2017: First-year face off specialist who attempted 260 or UMBC’s 282 draws… Captured 127 face-offs (48.8 percent), the 15th-most in school history and the second-most ever by a Retriever freshman (Nick Brownlee won 141 in 1997)… Finished second on the squad with 50 ground balls… Added a goal, an assist and caused four turnovers… Debuted by capturing 8 of 21 draws at defending national champion UNC, then won 9-of-15 at Johns Hopkins… Earned America East Rookie of the Week honors on Feb. 13 for his performance versus the Blue Jays… The following week, he scored his first collegiate goal of a win of a draw at Richmond… Captured a season-high 14 draws (of 25) in UMBC’s AE opening win at Stony Brook (March 18)… Corralled a season-best seven ground balls and added an assist at Hartford on April 22… Won 23 of 36 face-offs in his final two efforts, and kept UMBC within striking distance in league semis versus Binghamton, as he earned 10 of 16 draws.

 

Background: Won 72 percent of his face-offs during his senior year, leading the powerful MIAA “A” Conference … Added 16 goals and 12 assists, and was voted his team’s most valuable player… Lists his best performance as a game against Saint John’s when he won all 15 draws in a 6-5 victory… Chose UMBC because “the team was very close and took care of each other”… Oldest of three children, with brother Jeremy and sister Samantha…  An honor roll student for three years… Enjoys skateboarding and surfing… Son of Becky and James Brothers.
