Biography

Accolades: (2018) Named to the America East Winter-Spring Honor Roll… Selected as a team captain for the second consecutive season. (2017) Named to America East Conference Winter-Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll. (2016) Named to America East Conference Winter-Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll. 

 

2018:  Made a mid-year conversion from offensive to defensive midfield… Posted career bests in ground balls (10) and caused turnovers (3)… Often used in pressure clearing situations… Scored an early goal versus Navy… Tallied one of UMBC’s bigger goals of the season, breaking a 2-2 tie with a late first quarter score and igniting a 6-0 run in the 11-7 victory over No. 1 Albany.

 

2017: Developed into a consistent, first-unit midfielder in the second half of the campaign… Played in all 14 games, and started seven of the final nine… Recorded five goals and eight total points… Earned his first collegiate start in the opener at UNC and posted his first collegiate point, an assist, a week later at Hopkins… Scored his first goal on April 1 versus UMass Lowell… Recorded his first multiple-point effort a week later with a goal and a helper at Albany… Added single goals versus Binghamton and Hartford and scored UMBC’s final goal of the year against the Bearcats in the league semi-final contest. 

 

2016: Sidelined due to surgery during the first half of the campaign… Did see action in four contests, including three of the last four games.

 

Background: Selected to the 2014-2015 ALL-USA Maryland Boys’ Lacrosse Team published by USA Today…  A 2015 Capital Gazette and Anne Arundel County Coaches’ First Team All-County selection… Also tabbed to The Washington Post’s All-Metro squad… A four-year letterwinner and four-year scholar-athlete for the Seahawks… A two-time captain and a two-time Maryland state champion (2012, 2014), as well as a four-time regional champion (2012-2015)… Earned 2015 First Team All-Anne Arundel County honoree and made the prestigious Maryland Freestate Team in 2014…An AP Scholar who earned Presidential Award for Academic Achievement… Interested in a career in the financial world… Late father, John Schimoler, earned four letters in lacrosse at Syracuse (1982-85) and late uncle Paul Schilmoler, was a four-time All-American in the sport at Cornell… Paul was a two-time Team USA member in 1990 and 1994… Grandfather, Paul, Sr., also played lacrosse for the Big Red and is a member of the Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame… Huge fan of the NHL’s Washington Capitals… Has an older sister, Heidi… Both parents, Jane and John, are deceased... Full name is John Gunnar Schimoler.
