Biography

Collegiate: Matriculated at UMBC in 2017-18, but did not compete, due to NCAA transfer rules. 

Competed in 19 games at Providence, 14 as a freshman and five in his sophomore campaign…The Friars earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament in both 2016 and 2017… Made his collegiate debut versus Harvard on Nov. 14, 2015… Scored season-high five points one week later versus Brown… Scored three points, and added two caroms, two blocks and a helper versus Hartford on Dec. 2.

2019-20: Battled an early-season injury to play in 28 games with four starts… Averaged 3.1 ppg with 1.5 rpg, 12 assists, four blocks and five steals… Had a career-high 15 points in the America East opener against UMass Lowell making five field goals with four coming from three… Had a career-best six rebounds against Penn State York on Dec. 30… Also had a 13 point performance in the season-opening win against Valley Forge.

2018-19:  After playing just 66 minutes of college basketball since 2015-16, he started the first nine games of the season...  Scored in double figures for first time in his career with 10 points vs. South Dakota... Posted career highs in points (14), treys (4) rebounds (5) and minutes (29) in win at Coppin State... Scored 11 second half points (3-for-3 from 3) to key rally... Hit all 3 attempts from long range at Drexel and connected on six in a row in those two games... 125 of his 158 field goal attempts on the year were from behind the arc... Did not start for first time as a Retriever on Jan. 16 vs. Binghamton, but hit 3-of-5 shots (8 pts.) in 15 minutes off the bench...Hit his lone field goal of the game, a right corner trey, with 9 seconds left in OT to elevate UMBC to 65-64 win over UAlbany... Tied his season/career high with a crucial 14-point effort at Maine on Feb. 10... Had gone 14 games without scoring in double figures... Buried all three attempts from long range at Binghamton and averaged 9.4 ppg in last seven regular season games... Converted 12-of-25 (48.0 percent) treys in that span.  

Background: Attended Northern Durham and Moravian Prep…Led Moravian Prep to a 38-7 record in 2015…Averaged 28.3 points per game while shooting over 45 percent from beyond the arc… Scored 53 points in a game on November of 2014, converting an amazing 10-of-11 from three-point range…Captained the basketball team his junior and senior years at Northern Durham… Led his team to a 26-3 record and a conference title in 2014 at Northern Durham…Named Conference Player of the Year, First Team All-State, and District Player of the Year in 2014…Lettered in track and field for two years for the Knights and was a state finalist in the high jump …Scored over 2,000 points in his high school career while averaging 6.0 rebounds per game…Ranked the eighth- best prospect in North Carolina by Max Preps…Played for the Team Loaded AAU squad of Virginia… Transferred to UMBC because of “amazing opportunity from a great coaching staff and a beautiful campus”… Considering a major in sociology… Lists favorite professional squad as the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and favorite food as chicken parmesan… The oldest of four siblings – brothers Ricky III and Ricky IV and sister Rhianna… Son of Ruth and Rick Council.
