Biography

Accolades: Selected to America East Second Team, All Defensive Team in 2018-19 and 2019-20 and All-Tournament Team in 2018-19.  

Record Book Material: Moved into second place on UMBC all-time list for thefts (77) in a season, just three shy of all-time leader Larry Simmons... The 77 thefts were the most-ever by a UMBC junior.  

2019-20: Appeared in 29 games, starting in every game after returning from a pre-season injury… Made his season debut at LSU on Nov. 19 scoring six points and collecting five rebounds… Finished the season averaging 13.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg and 4.2 assists per game… Led the team in scoring with 401 points, his second straight season of 400+ points… Had a stretch of ten straight double-digit scoring performances from Nov. 24 to Jan. 4 and ended the season with four 20-point games in the last seven… Had a 25 point game against Stony Brook in the regular-season finale to help UMBC to the four seed… Tied a career-high with nine assists against Nicholls State in his third game back… Named to America East All-Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team. 

2018-19: Posted a solid line of 10p-6r-6a in just 21 minutes vs. Shenandoah... Became the first Retriever to score 20 in 2018-19, hitting that mark vs. Manhattan... Swished his first four treys of the night and added team highs of 7 caroms and helpers... Misfired on 16 consecutive trey attempts, until knocking down a pair at NKU... Recorded 16 steals in a four-game stretch, capped by a 6-steal effort vs. American... Added 9 assists vs. the Eagles... Scored UMBC sesaon-high 31 points at Drexel on Dec. 8... His 27 second-half points is the most-ever by a Retriever in one half of play... Jay Greene (vs. UNH, Feb. 10, 2009) and Derell Thompson (at Towson, Feb. 15, 1992) each had 25 points in a half... His 13 field goals made is tied for ninth-most in a game on UMBC’s all-time list - the most recent entry was Will Darley (13/16), who netted 38 vs. UML on Feb. 18, 2017... Scored 17 pts. (7/9 fg) and 4 steals before fouling out after 23 minutes vs. UAlbany on Jan. 19... Averaged 15.8 ppg over his last 13 games, ending the season with 11 straight in double figures... Finished the season 18th in the nation with 2.26 steals per game and 19th with 77 thefts...Lead America East in steals per game (2.3) and total steals (77) and finished seventh with 3.1 assists per game.

Background: Scored the most points in a single season (801, 2017-18) and in Temple College (Texas) school history (1,404) in two junior college campaigns… Finished third in the nation in scoring a season ago, averaging 25.8 points per game for the Leopards… Earned First Team All-Region V and All-Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference honors… The Texas junior college Player of the Year, leading the Leopards to a 23-8 record… In addition to his scoring prowess, averaged 5.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game in his tenure…  A three-year letter winner and starter at Fort Bend Hightower High School… Named District 20-6A Most Valuable Player and helped lead his team to a district championship, with a school record of 30-5, a top ten ranking in the state of Texas, and to the third round of the playoffs as a senior… Tabbed All-State for football as a senior in the fall of 2015… Considering a major in sociology and interested in the field of criminal justice… Full name is Kaelin Jackson… Father Nolan competed in football at Prairie View A&M… Lists favorite professional teams as NFL’s Houston Texans and NBA’s Houston Rockets… Not-so-hidden talent is “making food disappear”…Son of Silvia and Nolan Jackson
