Rob Fusaro enters his second season with the Retrievers as the director of basketball operations, after joining the staff in October of 2014.
Fusaro’s responsibilities are the day-day operations of the men’s basketball team, which include team travel, controlling the yearly budget, opponent scouting, on-campus recruiting and practice planning. He has been heavily involved in video operations including opponent scouting, video breakdowns of games and practices and video edits to improve player performance. As director of the 2015 Team Thomas Basketball camp, Fusaro helped welcome the largest number of campers in recent history. In the spring and summer of 2015, he served as an interim assistant coach, primarily responsible for player off-season workouts and recruiting.
Before joining UMBC, Fusaro served as the director of basketball operations at Lehigh University under Dr. Brett Reed. He was responsible for scheduling for the 2014-15 season in which Lehigh defeated high major powers DePaul and Arizona State. He also served as the program’s video coordinator. As director of the 2014 Lehigh Summer Basketball Camp, Fusaro generated the highest gross income in camp history.
The 2007 Elizabethtown (Pa.) College graduate formerly served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Division II Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia for five seasons. He was the program's primary recruiting coordinator, recruited two 1,000-point scorers and helped develop three All-CACC players. Fusaro’s other duties included conducting pre/post-season individual workouts and scouting reports for future opponents. He also was the founder and operator of the Chestnut Hill Fall High School Basketball League for three years.
Prior to Chestnut Hill, Fusaro was assistant coach at Gwynedd-Mercy College in Pennsylvania. Fusaro helped lead the Griffins to a 21-10 record, winning the 2007 Coles Classic Tournament and finishing as runner-up in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Regional Tournament. He also has experience working the Hoop Group Top 100 camp as a basketball instructor.
Fusaro competed for three seasons as a member the Elizabethtown Blue Jays basketball team. He currently resides in Ellicott City, Md. with his wife Crystalrae.
