Gabe Maturo joined the men's basketball coaching staff as a graduate assistant in January 2022 and is now serving as Assistant Coach.
Prior to his promotion to Assistant Coach, Maturo worked as Director of Player Development and Student-Athlete Wellfare during the 2022-23 season.
Maturo has been with the men's basketball program since the 2018-19 season working as a manager for the first two seasons before being promoted to head manager before his appointment as graduate assistant.
In May 2022, he was selected as a participant in the TopConnect Graduate Assistant Leadership Academy, led by Stanford Assistant Coach Rob Ehsan. Maturo was one of 20 graduate assistants from all levels of the NCAA to be nominated to the program.
Maturo has plenty of basketball experience outside of UMBC, having worked for The Basketball Tournament (TBT) since 2020.
In the summer and winter of 2019-20, Maturo held an internship at the Patuxent Naval Base, where he worked in information technology for the government.
Maturo graduated from UMBC in the December 2021 with a bachelor's degree in Information Systems, with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He will be earned a master's degree in Information Systems in the spring of 2022.
A native of Fairfield, Pa., Maturo was a three-year letter winner at Fairfield High School where he was a varsity standout. In 2018, as a senior, he earned Team MVP honors and a nomination to the annual Maryland vs. Pennsylvania All-Star game.
