Tutorial Program:
Our tutorial program focuses on addressing the individual needs of our student-athletes. The tutorial program is intended to serve as a supplement to regular class attendance in addition to meeting with instructors for assistance. Tutoring is a dynamic process which will not be exactly the same for any two students. While we value flexibility and creativity, we strive to maintain the rules and procedures to ensure that each student-athlete receives high quality tutorial support. All student-athletes and tutors are required to comply with all NCAA policies and rules outlined by the Academic Center for Student-Athletes. Tutors are required to complete training each semester regarding NCAA policies and the rules set forth by ACSA.
Students will submit tutoring requests through the Retain app. Tutoring appointments may be requested for a one-time appointment, once a week regular appointment or twice a week regular appointment. Tutoring requests must be submitted at least seven (7) days prior to the requested date. Students will be notified if a tutor is unavailable and provided with additional resources for assistance.
Student-athletes must attend all tutoring appointments in the Academic Center for Student-Athletes (this all applies to appointments where the tutor is virtual).
Student-athletes should not contact their tutors for any reason. All communication with tutors must be made by the Academic Center for Student-Athletes in order to abide by NCAA institutional control policies. Failure to follow this policy will result in the loss of tutoring
privileges.
It is highly recommended that all student-athletes bring their textbooks, class notes, and syllabus to every tutoring session. Students are expected to have attempted to complete their work prior to their tutoring session and are expected to participate actively in each session.
At the conclusion of each tutoring session, the tutor will complete a Tutor Report Form which is made available to their ACSA advisor, commenting on the session and recommending a course of action before the next appointment.
Students must cancel tutoring appointments at least 12 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. Students will submit tutoring cancellation requests through the Retain. Cancellation requests may not be submitted through the Retain app. Tutors must still be paid for appointments that are cancelled less than 12 hours prior to the scheduled appointment.
Failure to attend a scheduled appointment will result in a warning which will be emailed to the student, their advisor and coaches. Failure to attend a second scheduled appointment will result in a mandatory meeting with the Tutor Coordinator and their advisor. Coaches will also be notified.
Failure to attend a third scheduled appointment will result in the loss of tutoring privileges for the remainder of the semester. Coaches will also be notified.
