Biography

2021-22: Played in 13 games during his first season as a Retriever… Made his UMBC debut against Penn State York on November 15 where he scored two points with two rebounds… Also had two points at Maine on January 22… Recorded a season-high two rebounds twice against Penn State York (Nov. 15) and Vermont (2/19).

BACKGROUND: Comes to UMBC after spending the past couple of years at Harford Community College. While at Harford, he averaged 9.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.4 apg and 1.3 spg. He scored a career-best 24 points against Allegany College of Maryland. He prepped at Havre de Grace High School where he averaged 23.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and 3.0 apg. He also lettered in football, helping his team to a 1A Maryland State Championship appearance.The son of Deirdre and Kenneth Sumpter, he has one brother, Darrren. His mother Deirdre played basketball at UMBC. He lists his favorite food as ribs and favorite movies as the John Wick series. When not playing basketball, he likes to play video games.
