Biography

AS A FRESHMAN (2005-06): Emerged as a rookie starter, earning her first start against Hartford and two games later jumping into the starting role for the rest of the season…started 13 games on the year…played in 27 games out of a possible 28 games, only missing the game against Navy due to a mild case of the flu…recorded eight blocks in the final six games of the regular season, including two blocks in three consecutive games...finished with 19 blocks, recording the 10th most blocks all-time by a UMBC freshman...averaged 0.7 blocks per game (bpg), ranking 12th in the conference…averaged 0.75 bpg in conference play to rank 10th among league competitors…recorded six rebounds for a career high on four occasions...played the entire second half versus Albany and finished with two points, four rebounds, three assists and a career-high four blocks in UMBC’s come-from-behind win...recorded five blocks in a span of three games, rejecting one against Drexel and two against Longwood and Lafayette...played in the Retrievers’ win over American and for the second consecutive game gave UMBC a scoring spark off the bench, scoring five first-half points...came off the bench in the first half against Loyola (Ill.) to score the Retrievers first points of the game with back-to-back baskets in the low post…went 4-for-4 with eight points and corralled six rebounds in that game…averaged 2.0 points per game, 2.4 rebounds per game and shot 36.5 percent from the field on the year.

HIGH SCHOOL: Became a highly decorated student-athlete over a four-year varsity career at Reno High School, captaining the team her junior and senior years…averaged 13.4 ppg, 12.3 rpg, 3.2 bpg and 4.1 apg her junior and senior years…both a McDonald’s All-American game and Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee…recorded 15 points, 22 rebounds, three blocks and two assists against the state runner-up as her 22 rebounds set a Reno H.S. record for rebounds in a game…earned first-team all-state by the Las Vegas Review Journal as a junior and second-team all-state as a senior…as a junior and senior earned first-team all-region (Northern Nevada) and first-team All-Sierra League by the Reno Gazette Journal and Nevada Prep.com…led her team to the Sierra League title all-four years, including undefeated regular seasons her final two years…won the Northern Nevada Regional Tournament her sophomore through senior years and as a junior and senior made it to the Nevada state title game, finishing as the runner-up…held a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout high school, earning Nevada All-State Academic Team accolades all four years…a member of the National Merit Honor Society and a National Merit Scholarship Letter of Commendation recipient.

PERSONAL: Daughter of Elly Buursma and Stewart Butler…has a brother, Nick Butler…born Sept. 10, 1987.
