2011: One of just three Retrievers to start all 18 games on the campaign… The holding midfielder solidified UMBC’s defense, which permitted only two or more goals just twice in the first 14 games of the season… Attempted a career-high 12 shots.
2010: Saw action in 18 contests, contributing primarily as a holding midfielder… Made nine starts, all in a row, beginning with the nod vs. Wofford on Sept. 4… Played all 110 minutes in the 1-1 overtime draw vs. Binghamton on Oct. 2… Saw action off the bench in both NCAA Tournament games.
2009: Wide midfielder played his best soccer at the end of his freshman campaign… Made seven starts in 19 appearances and started the last four games of the season… Played 90 minutes in three of those four contests… Notched his first career point in his debut vs. Delaware on Sept. 4 and added another assist two days later vs. St. Joseph’s… Made his first career start vs. Mount St. Mary’s on Sept. 12.
Background: Majoring in mechanical engineering… The center midfielder capped an outstanding prep career with a brilliant 2008 campaign for the 9-4-2 Patapsco Patriots… Scored 16 goals and added 12 assists and earned First-Team All-Metro (The Baltimore Sun) and First-Team All-State honors… He completed his four-year career with 42 goals and 30 helpers and was a three-time First-Team All-County selection… Captured a State Cup title with the Baltimore Bays in 2008… Also earned letters in baseball in 2006 and 2007… An excellent student, he was an AP Scholar in 2008-09 and a Maryland Distinguished Scholar in 2009… Coached by former Retriever Mike Griffith (1996-99) at Patapsco… Enjoys playing golf and lists his favorite pro team as Manchester United… Has an older brother, Kevin, Jr., who is 23… Son of Beverly and Kevin Vaeth… David John Vaeth was born on Aug. 3, 1991.
