Brooke Clagett & Amara Codd Earn America East Conference Weekly Women's Soccer Awards

Boston, Mass. – UMBC freshman forward Brooke Clagett and sophomore goalkeeper Amara Codd cashed in America East Conference women's soccer accolades, it was announced on Monday morning. Clagett was named both the Offensive Player of the Week and the Rookie of the Week, while Codd earned Goalie of the Week honors.

Clagett, who scored 73 career goals during her sensational high school career, is off to a blazing start with game-winning goals against Mount St. Mary's (8/13) and American (8/16).

Clagett notched her first career goal in the 17th minute against the Mount to provide the Retrievers with a 2-0 advantage. After launching her own shot, she pounced on the rebound in the box, slotting it home. Against American, UMBC scored just 28 seconds into the second half by taking advantage of a defensive mistake. Graduate forward Cece Price gained possession after the Eagles lost control near midfield. Price carried the ball into the box and had her shot blocked, but she regained it and slid the ball across to freshman forward Brooke Clagett in front of the goal. Clagett evaded a sliding defender and pushed the ball into the lower right corner for her second career tally.

Codd played all 180 minutes in goal to pick up two victories, allowing just a pair of goals on penalty kicks and making a combined 11 saves.

With just two minutes left in the opening half against Mount, Codd delivered a terrific play, soaring into the air to get her fingertips on a high, arching shot by Anika Berger. The ball ricocheted off the crossbar and trickled over the net for a corner, preserving UMBC's lead spectacularly. Codd, who racked up six saves on the evening against the Mount, came up clutch nine minutes into the second half, leaping to punch away a dangerous attempt by Peyton Gallagher that seemed destined for the corner of the net. Against American, the Eagles threatened to score by hitting the crossbar twice within a minute after the Retrievers' second goal. Codd (five saves) managed to get her fingertips on the second shot and deflected it off the post.

The Retrievers host Fairmont State on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
