Ava Roberts kicked off competition for the UMBC women's outdoor track & field program on Thursday evening at the NCAA East First Round hosted by the University of Kentucky.
Young closed out her outstanding freshman campaign, placing 27th in the 100 hurdles, narrowly missing a qualification spot into the next round of competition on Saturday. She reset her own program record in the event, beating her previous mark of 13.35 seconds with a time of 13.30 seconds, just .04 seconds shy of a top-24 spot.
Veteran
Ava Roberts competed in her first of two events this weekend, starting off with the shot put. Roberts converted a throw of 16.36 meters to place 18th in the event. The top 12 qualified for the NCAA Championships, with the 12th-place mark sitting at 16.82 meters. Roberts will compete in the discus on Saturday, looking to earn a trip to Oregon for the Outdoor Championships.
