Frisvold and Nicholson Sisters Propel Softball to Victory on Monday

BALTIMORE -- Junior Maggie Frisvold tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base, while sisters Kenzie and Taylor Nicholson each had three hits as the UMBC Softball team picked a 7-0 win in the rubber game of its three game series with visiting Morgan State on Monday.

Frisvold allowed just one hit and walked three, and the contest ended when her sister, freshman Abbie Frisvold, threw out a runner trying to steal second. The younger Frisvold also had a hit and scored a run in the contest. T. Nicholson went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI hits and two runs scored, while her younger sister went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored.

UMBC got on the board in the second inning on a Catlyn Thrush RBI single that scored T. Nicholson and M. Frisvold scored on an error on the same play. Thrush would later score on a two-out error to make it 3-0 in the second. It became 5-0 in the third when T. Nicholson and Sophie Anderson each had RBI singles.

Emily Riggs made it 6-0 in the fourth on an RBI triple to score K. Nicholson, and T. Nicholson immediately followed with an RBI single of her own to make it 7-0.

UMBC hosts Lehigh for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
