Riggs Propels Softball to Split on Sunday

Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC Softball team split with Morgan State on Sunday with an 8-2 victory.

 

Emily Riggs led the offense for the Retrievers going a perfect 6-6 on the day with two walks and two doubles. 

 

UMBC dropped the first game against Morgan State, 5-2. Taylor Nicholson scored Kenzie Nicholson on a sac bunt in the third inning. The Retrievers had a comeback opportunity in the seventh with Abbie Frisvold hitting a single through the right side to score Ella Squaires

 

The Retrievers would defeat Morgan State in the second game, 8-2. Bella Nunn earned her first career win in the circle for UMBC, throwing 4.1 innings with six strikeouts. Elena Clark-Wilson earned her first career save, striking out three batters while giving up no hits. 

 

The Retrievers lineup picked up 11 hits with Riggs going 4-4. Taylor Nicholson hit her second home run as a Retriever and had three RBI and a double. Squaires went 2-2 with an RBI and a walk. Maggie Frisvold and Abbie Frisvold both scored two runs to help seal the victory.


The Softball team will close out the series with Morgan State on Monday at the Diamond at UMBC. First pitch is set for 4 pm.
