BALTIMORE --
Danny Orr tied the game in the eighth on a solo homer, but visiting Maine hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth to avoid a sweep with a 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Maine went up 3-0 in the third after an error extended the inning and the Black Bears capitalized with a three-run homer. UMBC got a run back in the fourth when
Kyle Eddington laid down a one out bunt single and moved to second on a throwing error, stole third and then scored on a
Jesiah Carpenter RBI single.
It became 3-2 in the sixth when Orr doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a
Zach Hampton grounder. Orr, who went 3-for-5, tripled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but UMBC was unable to tie the game.
Danny Wyatt went 2-for-4, while
Anthony Mascuilli singled and walked twice.
Kailen Hackmann entered with a runner on third and one out in the top of the ninth and struck out both hitters he faced on seven total pitches.
