Softball Welcomes Holy Cross to The Diamond

The UMBC Softball team continues its home stand as it hosts Holy Cross for a four game weekend series at The Diamond. The two teams will play doubleheaders on both Saturday (1 p.m) and Sunday (11 a.m.).

Last time out, teh Dawgs split a doubleheader with Lehigh on Wednesday.

UMBC earned a 4-3 victory, before the Mountain Hawks took the second game, 14-2 (5). 
 
Jayda Koontz picked up the win in the circle pitching seven innings with six strikeouts. 

UMBC scored in the third inning with Taylor Nicholson reaching on a fielder's choice bunt to score Kenzie Nicholson on third. Retrievers would take the lead in the fourth inning with Sophie Anderson hitting an RBI single to right field to score Maggie Frisvold. Kenzie Nicholson would follow it up with a single to score two more runs. 

The Retrievers had seven stolen bases in the victory with Kenzie Nicholson swiping three.

In game two,  Emily Riggs picked up the two RBI scoring Abbie Frisvold in the first and third inning. Abbie Frisvold had two hits while Ella Squaires had a hit in the loss.

Scouting Holy Cross:
  • The Crusders (4-8) fell to North Dakota by a final score of 9-0 to close out the Spartan Round Up in Norfolk, Va., on Sunday, Mar. 8. 
  • Emma Pietrzak went 1-for-3 with a double
  • Camryn Lasota went 3-for-4, two doubles, a walk and three RBI
  • NDU got on the board in the top of the second with a two-RBI single by Jaedyn Valdez.
  • North Dakota extended its lead to 3-0 with an RBI single by Lastota in the top of the third.
  • NDU scored six additional runs in the sixth and seventh innings to increase their lead to 9-0.
