BALTIMORE - UMBC scored at least two runs in all six trips to the plate on Tuesday, defeating Mount St. Mary's 20-4 at Alumni Field. The Retrievers improve to 5-6 on the season while the Mount falls to 6-8.
UMBC tallied 15 hits, drew 12 walks, and was hit by two pitches in the process of pushing 20 runs across home plate for the first time since March, 2024.
Ehi Okojie had an elite day at the plate, lacing two doubles, slugging a two-run homer, and driving in five runs to pace the offensive effort.
Anthony Mascuilli,
Luke Buscaglia,
Derek Paris, and
Kyle Eddington also had multi-hit days at the plate for the Retrievers. Mascuilli went 2-4 with a double, two walks, three runs scored, and three RBI. Buscaglia was 2-2 with two runs batted in, and Eddington singled twice, drew a walk, and scored three runs for the Retrievers. Tuesday's contest marked three straight multi-hit games for Masciulli, who has a hit in six straight games. With three RBI on the day, Paris now has four games with three or more RBI in his career.
Jacob Bagania,
Danny Orr, and
Carver Salazar all doubled for UMBC, while
Zach Hampton cracked his first career homer for the Retrievers.
UMBC wasted no time, plating three runs in the bottom of the first, starting with an RBI double from Okojie to score
Jesiah Carpenter, who led the inning off with a walk. Okojie would score on a wild pitch, and Paris, who singled, would come around to score on an RBI double from Orr.
Hampton led off the second inning with his first career blast before Okojie's two-run shot with two outs in the inning.
Leading 6-0 after 2.5 innings, UMBC tacked on five in the third, starting with a Masciulli RBI single. Okojie drove in two more with his third extra-base hit in three innings before Paris singled through the left side to score Okojie and
Dylan Melton.
The Retrievers would go on to score three in the fourth, four in the fifth, and two more in the sixth before closing out the victory in the seventh with the run-rule in effect.
On the mound,
Cole Koonce and
Brady Fox each tossed a pair of scoreless innings, and
Sam Bell finished the game with a scoreless frame. Fox didn't allow a hit in his two innings and struck out three.
UMBC is back at it tomorrow, hosting Delaware State at 3 p.m.
