Boston, Mass. – UMBC sophomore defender
Hailey Ahmed and freshman forward
Brooke Clagett received weekly America East Conference Women's Soccer awards on Monday.
Ahmed, earning her first career accolade, was named Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead the Retrievers to two shutout victories over NJIT and UAlbany. The center back also scored her third goal of the season and added an assist in the victory over UAlbany.
Clagett earned Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season after assisting on the game-winner against NJIT and scoring the game-winner against UAlbany. Clagett leads the circuit with four game-winners and is tied for fourth overall in points (1.000 per game). Her six goals are one off the league lead.
UMBC, now second in the league standings with nine points, has won three consecutive league contests to improve to 3-1 and upped its overall record to 9-3-2. One more win would give the Dawgs their first double-digit win season since they finished 12-4-3 in 2014. The three conference victories are the most since they went 3-3-2 in 2015.
The Retrievers host Binghamton this Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
