Women's Soccer Picks Up Road Draw At Bryant

Sunday's Result Sets Up Crucial Regular-Season Finale Versus Maine

Smithfield, RI – The UMBC women's soccer team earned a scoreless draw with the Bryant Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at Beirne Stadium.

UMBC (9-4-4, 3-2-2) is now tied with Bryant and Maine for second place in the America East standings, with one regular-season game remaining next Sunday against Maine.  The Retrievers can finish anywhere from second to seventh place with six teams qualifying for the America East Championships.

UMBC dominated possession and quality chances in the second half but couldn't put one past Maine goalkeeper Shannon Mejia, who made three saves. UMBC held a 13-5 shot advantage, but only three were on target.

Retrievers' junior goalkeeper Amara Codd (4 saves) made two terrific plays in the opening half to keep the Bulldogs off the board.  In the 10th minute, Codd charged off her line to deny Caitlyn Forshay from five yards on the right side of the box.  Then again, with just under five minutes remaining in the stanza, Codd made a diving save to turn away another close-range attempt by forward Ava Feeley.

UMBC had a great chance in the 57th minute as junior midfielder Kristiana Kolega sent a nifty back-heel pass deep into the box for sophomore defender Cami Mink. However, Mink had a difficult angle, and her shot hit the side of the net.

The Dawgs earned multiple corner kicks that led to shots, but they couldn't put any on target. The Retrievers held an 8-2 advantage on corner opportunities.

Senior Payton Schenning took a team-high three shots, and sophomore defender Hailey Ahmed headed two corners wide.

UMBC will honor 12 student-athletes who will appear in their final regular-season home contest before next Sunday's crucial 12:00 p.m. game against Maine.
