BALTIMORE - UMBC took down Bryant, 55-47, on Thursday afternoon in front of a packed Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena crowd. The Retrievers improved to 2-2 in conference play, handing Bryant its first America East loss of the season, leaving just Binghamton unbeaten in conference play this season.
Jade Tillman continued a torrid stretch, recording her first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Tillman has now scored 12 or more points in nine straight games, making her the first Retriever to record at least nine consecutive double-digit scoring efforts since Ashia McCalla did it in 12 straight games in 2023.
Tillman scored 10 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter, helping to stave off an early run from the Bulldogs. UMBC entered the fourth quarter with a 39-26 lead, but Bryant quickly trimmed the deficit to three in the first 2:11 of the period. UMBC's lead shrank to one with 1:47 to play after an Izzy Adams free throw, but Tillman took over, scoring the next eight points of the contest, pushing the Retrievers to a nine-point lead with nine seconds remaining.
UMBC held Bryant to 10 or fewer points in each of the first three quarters, holding the Bulldogs to just 31 percent from the field over the first three quarters.
Alaina Williams scored 12 points for the Retrievers, her second game this season scoring in double figures.
Heidi Williams finished with six points and five rebounds, while
Delaney Yarborough contributed five points and six rebounds.
The Retrievers improved to 7-0 all-time against Bryant since the Bulldogs joined the conference ahead of the 2022-23 season.
UMBC welcomes Binghamton on Saturday afternoon for Teacher Appreciation Day at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.
