Williams Named AE Rookie of the Week for the Third Time

BOSTON - Heidi Williams became the fifth player in UMBC history to be named America East Rookie of the Week three or more times on Monday afternoon. Williams also earned the honor on Dec. 31 and Nov. 17

This past week, the Prince George's County, Md. native averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game as UMBC went 1-1. Williams matched her career-high with 16 points on Thursday night in a loss at Maine. The freshman added four steals, a block, and two rebounds as well, marking her third game this season with four or more steals. Williams followed that effort up on Saturday by scoring 15 points and pulling down six rebounds to help lead the Retrievers to their first America East victory of the season.

Over the past four games, Williams has raised her scoring average from 8.2 to 9.3 per game, scoring 15 or more points in three of those contests. For the season, Williams also averages 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals per night.

Williams joins Meghan Colabella, Michelle Kurowski, Lauren Chase and Sara Tarbert as the only Retrievers to earn America East Rookie of the Week honors at least three times.

The Retrievers host Bryant on Thursday afternoon at 12 p.m. for Midday Madness inside Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.
