The UMBC Volleyball team opens the home portion of its schedule this weekend when it hosts William & Mary, Old Dominion and Maryland for a tournament that begins on Friday.
The Retrievers will look to Pack The Peake in their opener against William & Mary at 7 pm on Friday, they then face ODU at 4 p.m. on Saturday, before hosting Maryland at 1 p.m. on Sunday in their annual Gold Rush game. There will be a gold UMBC t-shirt giveaway for the first 300 fans. UMBC Volleyball libero
Hannah Howard was named the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week, the Conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.Â
The junior had 26 digs in only 4 sets (6.5 per set) in an upset win over Delaware, while adding seven assists and an ace in the match. She was named to the K-State Invitational All-Tournament Team as she finished with 37 digs and 10 assists over the weekend.
The Dawgs closed the weekend with a four set win over Conference USA power Delaware (25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-16) on Saturday at Kansas State.
Hannah Dobbs led all players with 17 kills and added seven digs, two blocks and two assists.Â
Jalynn Brown had 16 kills on .342 hitting while also adding seven digs, two blocks and two assists.
Scouting William & Mary:
- Davidson defeated William & Mary (1-1) in four sets at Winthrop Coliseum on Saturday, with scores of 25-22, 17-25, 25-18, 25-20.
- Avery Horejsi led the Tribe with 21 digs Â
- Olivia Esposito had six total blocks
- Ryann Love added nine total blocks (one solo, eight assisted) for 8.0 points
- Katherine Arnason collected 15.0 points wit nine total blocks and a service ace
Scouting Old Dominion:
- Old Dominion (0-3) volleyball came up short on Saturday as the Monarchs dropped their final match of the Quest for the Crown, 3-0 to Towson (25-16, 25-22, 25-13).
- LeeAnne Lowery swung for a .562 clip and paced the attack with 10 kills, added two digs and one block to her totals.
- Elisa Maggi  followed with six kills, 11 digs and one ace
- Wiktoria Zagumny racked up 22 assists with five kills and three digs
- Rita Benidio served two aces with four kills and six digs.Â
- Kate Kilpatrick led the back row with 15 digs.
Scouting Maryland:
- Maryland volleyball (0-2) fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels in four sets (25-21, 17-25, 17-25, 17-25) on Saturday afternoon.Â
- Ajack Malual led the Terps with 16 kills
- Haley Melby chipped in with 10
- Ally Williams led Maryland with 10 of the Terps' 32 total digs.
- The Terps battled in all four sets, but fell behind in the final three sets and were unable to rally, posting three straight 25-17 set losses to close out their weekend.Â
