Retrievers Fall Short Against High Point

BALTIMORE - The UMBC volleyball team dropped a non-conference contest to High Point on Friday evening inside Chesapeake Insurance Arena. 

The Retrievers fell in straight sets to the Panthers (25-19, 25-20, 25-14) despite a strong showing from Hannah Dobbs

Dobbs, a sophomore from Toronto, Ohio, led UMBC (1-8) with 11 kills and six digs. Dobbs hit .276 in the match, recording her fourth 10+ kill match of the season and first since Sept. 5. 

Claudia Llamas chipped in with eight kills, hitting .200, while Jalynn Brown contributed six kills, five digs, and a pair of aces in the match. 

Izzy Ostvig handed out a team-high 17 assists in the match, adding eight digs. Serin Maden dished out 12 assists and had a team-high nine digs for the Retrievers. 

Élodie Lalonde led High Point (3-7) with 15 kills and 10 digs, hitting .500. Addison Freeland added 11 kills while hitting .526. Allie Gray led the match with 20 assists. 

UMBC will turn around and host Howard on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Chesapeake Insurance Arena for a Hometown Heroes match. All veterans, active military members, police, firemen, EMTs, doctors, and nurses will be admitted free.
