Volleyball Welcomes High Point and Howard to The Peake

The UMBC Volleyball team returns home to host High Point and Howard this weekend at The Peake.

The Retrievers and HPU will battle at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 2 p.m. match on Saturday with Howard.

Friday's match begins the Dawgtoberfest celebration and there will be a flannel bomber hat giveaway for first 300 fans, while Saturday will be the annual Hometown Heroes Match with free admission for veterans, active military members, police, fire, EMTs, doctors, and nurses.

Last time out, a shorthanded UMBC Volleyball team battled, but dropped a tough five-setter at Georgetown (23-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-21, 19-17) on Sunday afternoon.

Laura Fuehrer continued her stellar play with a career high 12 kills on .458 hitting (one error) and six blocks. Jalynn Brown had 15 kills, 10 digs and four aces, while Hannah Dobbs added seven kills.

Hannah Howard led the Dawgs with 14 digs, and Serin Maden had a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs. Izzy Ostvig filled the stat sheet with 21 assists, seven digs, six kills and three blocks.

Ema Djordjevic tallied a career-high five kills and four blocks, while Molly Penn added six digs.

Scouting High Point:
  • After a dominant first and third sets, the Panthers fell to host East Tennessee State in a competitive fifth set.
  • Two Panthers led the match with 12 kills apiece, Maya Bukovcan and Gabby Hill.
  • Bukovcan hit over .600 on the day and Hill registered a season-high in kills.
  • HPU totaled 50 kills to ETSU's 66 kills and hit .101 as a team compared to the Buccaneers' .213 hitting percentage.
  • HPU dominated on the serve collecting 12 aces to get ETSU out of system.
  • Kea Whillock led the game with 15 digs and Gray totaled a season-high 42 assists.
  • HPU faces Howard on Thursday night
Scouting Howard:
  • Howard volleyball ended the weekend with a straight 3-0 sweep over American Sunday afternoon in The Burr.
  • Rya McKinnon had a game-high 16 kills
  • Leah Reeves   tallied a match-best 40 assists and four aces
  • Camryn Shelton led the defense with 15 digs.
  • Zenai Jethroe added 10 kills for the Bison
