Softball Takes Two At UMass Lowell on Friday Afternoon

Lowell, Mass. – The UMBC softball team won both double-header games on Friday afternoon against the UMass Lowell River Hawks. The Retrievers won 12-0 in the first game and 9-2 in the second game. All Retrievers had a hit in the double-header.
 

Emily Riggs opened the first game with a 2 RBI home run and went 3-4 with two runs. Kya Matter picked up her 13th win on the season striking out seven batters and only allowing two hits in the shutout. 

 

Ella Squaires went 6-9 on the day with two RBI. Amaya Carroll went 5-8 including a triple and home run, while Amya Lundy went 4-7 with three RBI and a double. Haley Luginbill picked up a couple of hits in both games while picking up three RBI. 


Luginbill opened the second game with a single through the left side to score Jerzie Nutile in the first inning. Nutile and Carroll both homered in the second game for the Retrievers. Nutile picked up her second win on the mound with nine strikeouts while only allowing three hits and one earned run. The Retrievers had a strong sixth inning and scored four runs to take a 7-0 lead before UMass Lowell scored two runs to prevent the shutout. 

 

The Retrievers will conclude the last regular season game against UMass Lowell on Saturday with a 12 p.m. first pitch.
