BALTIMORE --
Kya Matter dazzled with in a seven strikeout complete-game as the UMBC Softball team earned a 7-0 win over Bryant in game one of a doubleheader on Friday evening.
The Bulldogs won, 13-5, in game two.
Amya Lundy,
Emily Riggs and
Haley Luginbill each hit solo homers, while
Catelyn Thrush went 2-for-3. Riggs also had a leadoff double in the seventh inning and Luginbill and Lundy both had hits in the seventh inning.
UMBC used a 6-run third in game one to run away early. Riggs and
Erin Behel had RBI singles sandwiched around an error to make it 3-0.
Amaya Carroll doubled home two runs and
Phoebe Florian hit a sacrifice fly to account for the runs in the inning. Lundy would add an RBI single in the fifth to close up the scoring. Riggs had two hits in the contest, while
Ella Squaires and
Jerzie Nutile also had hits.
The rubber match will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Senior Day festivities will begin at 12:30.
