The UMBC Softball team closes the home portion of its schedule, and will honor its senior class, by hosting Bryant this weekend at The Diamond. The series begins with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, and wraps with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday. There will be a senior ceremony on Saturday at 12:30 to honor
Abby Brenowitz,
Phoebe Florian,
Kya Matter and
Jerzie Nutile.
Last time out,
Emily Riggs homered and Matter pitched her second straight complete game to lead the UMBC Softball team to a 5-1 victory in game two of Sunday's double header against UAlbany to take the series. UAlbany rallied for an 8-6 win in Sunday's game one.
Riggs homered in the first inning to put UMBC up for good,
Ella Squaires had RBI singles in the fourth and sixth, and Florian had an RBI double and scored a pair of runs.
Matter struck out seven and allowed just four hits in the contest. Florian and Squaires were the only players in the contest with multiple hits, while
Haley Luginbill,
Erin Behel,
Maggie Frisvold and Brenowitz also had hits.
Scouting Bryant:
- Bryant lost to Brown in game one of the doubleheader, 7-6, on Wednesday.
- The second game ended due to darkness after the top of the fifth, resulting in a no-contest.
- Laniya Lewis hit a solo home run in game one, and McKenzie McAloon knocked a two-run home run in the second game.
- In the bottom of the first inning, the Bears scored four runs on two triples and two singles (4-0).
- Lewis began the top of the third inning with a solo home run (1-0). Hannah Cochran drew a walk, followed by two singles from Makenna Coleman and Meaghan Houk to load the bases. The Bulldogs then scored three runs on a Bears error, Jaelynn Lee's groundout, and Bryce Clendenin's groundout (4-4).
- Brown regained the lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single (5-4).
- In the top of the fourth, Lewis reached on an error and stole second. Cochran was walked, and Coleman singled, advancing Lewis to third base. This allowed Houk to hit a sac-fly to left field (5-5).
- The Bears hit a two-run HR in the bottom of the fourth inning (7-5).
- Cochran hit a leadoff single in the top of the seventh, Houk drew a walk, and Rohwer knocked an RBI-single through the right side (7-6). The Bulldogs then recorded back-to-back outs, ending the game.
