BALTIMORE --
Jerzie Nutile,
Haley Luginbill, and
Amaya Carroll each homered to give the UMBC softball team a 4-1 win over visiting UAlbany in game one of the three game series.
Nutile's team leading ninth homer got the Retrievers on the board first im the bottom of the fifth. After the Great Danes tied the game in the top of the sixth, Luginbill hammered a solo shot to left for her sevenh home run of the year to lead off the bottom half of the inning. After
Abby Brenowitz reached on an infield single, Carroll delivered the exclamation point with a blast to left center to seal it for the Retrievers.
Kya Matter went the distance for the Retrievers, striking out six without allowing a walk in her for her ninth victory.
UMBC and UAlbany will play a doubleheader tomorrow at The Diamond. First pitch is set for 12 PM with Game two approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game one.
