BOSTON -- UMBC senior swimmer
Oliver Gassmann was named the America East Men's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete, the Conference announced on Friday morning.
Gassmann is one of six outstanding student-athletes, from five different America East schools, who displayed excellence both academically and athletically throughout their collegiate careers. Gassmann is an 8-time individual America East Champion with two conference records.
The senior business technology administration major has a 3.83 major, and was named Most Outstanding Swimming at the 2025 Swimming & Diving Championship, and also won the award in 2023.
He won the 100 fly in a conference record time and took gold in the 200 fly as well, while capturing silver in the 50 free. Part of record-breaking 200 medley relay, and is a three-time All-Academic selection and two-time Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport, then voted upon by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement committee. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a projected starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50.
Sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced in July.
America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country, which honors over two-thirds of its student-athletes for their success in the classroom.
