BALTIMORE -- The UMBC softball team nearly battled back from a six run deficit, sending the tying run to the plate in each of the final two innings, but fell to visiting Rhode Island, 7-4, on Saturday night.
Four Retriever errors led to four unearned runs for the Rams, who sprinted out to a 6-0 lead before an
Amya Lundy solo homer in the fourth got UMBC on the board.
The lead was 7-1 in the sixth when the Retrievers mounted a furious comeback before falling.Â
Emily Riggs went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while
Amaya Carroll went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a walk.
Parker Kraus,
Haley Luginbill,
Skyler Smith and
Jolie Torrens also had hits for the Retrievers.
Bella Nunn was fabulous in relief, as she allowed 2 unearned runs in 3.2 innings of releief.
The final game of the day was canceled due to freezing temperatures, so UMBC will close the weekend with a 3 p.m. Sunday game against Fairleigh Dickinson.
