Women’s Basketball Falls in America East Quarterfinals

BURLINGTON, VT -- The seventh-seeded UMBC Women's Basketball team fell at #2 Vermont, 70-39, in the Jersey Mike's America East Quarterfinals to conclude the 2024-25 season. The Retrievers led after the first quarter and would trail by five heading into the second half, but the hosts pulled away with a big fourth quarter.

Talia Davis recorded 10 points and eight rebounds, Jaden Walker had eight points, four rebounds, and three assists and Jaliena Sanchez also recorded eight points. 

Jordon Lewis had six points while Tiara Bellamy had six rebounds in the loss.

 

How it Happened:

  • Lewis opened the game with a quick jumper to start the game and the Retrievers would make three three's to end the first quarter, 13-11 UMBC.
  • Vermont made a jumper to open the second quarter and would go on a 7-0 run before Walker made a driving layup, 17-15 Vermont.
  • The Catamounts ended the second quarter with a three and outshot the Retrievers 16-9 to take a 27-22 lead at halftime. 
  • Lewis opened the second half with a layup, but a late 8-0 Vermont run would end the third quarter, 42-32 Vermont.
  • Vermont opened with a layup and had eight straight points before Davis drained a three, 48-35 Vermont.
  • Vermont would have their best quarter to end the game, 70-39
