The UMBC Softball team looks to host a 12-game round robin with Holy Cross, Rhode Island, Cornell, and FDU starting Friday. The Retrievers are coming off a challenging weekend at the UGA Tournament and are currently 2-11.
Haley Luginbill led the way for the Retrievers as she started off hot last Friday against Ohio State and #10 Georgia going 5-for-6 with a homer, double, and three RBI.
Scouting Holy Cross:
- Holy Cross is currently 3-5, coming off two losses to George Washington.
- The Crusaders are under first year head coach Jon Ladino.
- The Crusaders have added four new faces to the team for the 2025 season while having four captains to lead the way.
- Emma Fong leads the team in batting average hitting .385 with Jena Whipple following behind with .304.
- Sophia Roncone leads the pitching staff with 2 wins and 2 losses and a 3.71 ERA.
Scouting Rhode Island:
- Rhode Island is currently 2-8 with a four game losing streak.
- The Rams are coming off a 1-11 (5 innings) loss against Presbyterian College on Sunday.
- Rhode Island left nine runners on base in five innings with Junior Mandi Hanewich walking three times and scoring the lone run.
- The Rams are under first year head coach Mike Coutts who was the head coach at Maine before spending the last three seasons with Colorado School of Mines.
- Joining Coutts as the pitching coach is former Maine pitcher Caitlyn Fallon.
Scouting Cornell:
- Cornell is currently 4-6 with a recent 11-6 loss to Seton Hall on Sunday.
- Cornell is under head coach Julie Farlow who has been the head coach since 2016.
- They add six freshman to the team to bring a balance of experience and new faces for the 2025 season.
- Emma Harshberger leads the offense hitting .375 in 32 at-bats while Hailey Pirkey follows behind hitting .357.
- Mila Fiordalisi leads the pitching staff with a 4.25 ERA and 24 strikeouts.
Scouting FDU:
- FDU is currently 4-9 with a recent 6-0 loss to Montana on Sunday.
- The Knights are under head coach Chris Foye who enters his sixth season with FDU.
- Madison Rishel leads the offense hitting .439 in 41 at-bats and Kailee O'Sullivan follows behind hitting .364.
- Brooklyn Shroyer leads the pitching staff with a 2.54 ERA with 3 wins and 2 losses on the season.
