Men's Lacrosse Falls at Bryant on Saturday Afternoon

Smithfield, RI - The UMBC men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-7 decision against the Bryant Bulldogs in an America East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Beirne Stadium. The Retrievers fell to 4-3 (2-1 AE), while the hosts improved to 5-4 (2-1 AE).

Senior midfielder Josh Tang scored his first two goals of the season, and classmate Jordan Galloway contributed a goal and an assist. Senior midfielder Trey Fleece recorded a team-high three caused turnovers.

Tang opened the scoring at the 12:19 mark of the opening quarter, but the Bulldogs answered with four straight goals and led 4-1 with 3:30 left in the stanza.

Junior attackman Connor Layden and Galloway scored back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to 4-3 late in the opening quarter.

UMBC trailed just 5-4 after Tang hit the target again with 10:22 left in the first half, but Bryant scored three unanswered goals to widen their lead to 8-4 with 4:09 left. 

The hosts settled for a 9-5 halftime advantage.

The Retrievers were within 10-7 after junior midfielder Nick Gutierrez scored on a man-up goal off an assist from Galloway at the 10:06 mark of the fourth quarter. However, the Bulldogs put the game away with two goals in the final 6:43 of the contest.

UMBC got off 42 shots compared to 31 by the Bulldogs.

The Retrievers return to UMBC Stadium on Friday afternoon against UMass Lowell.
