Women's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at UCF Invitational

Abongwa Impresses In Two Field Events

Orlando, Fl. - The UMBC women's track and field squad opened the outdoor season with a solid performance at the 2025 UCF Black & Gold Invitational this past weekend. 

Marie Abongwa turned in a pair of outstanding efforts in the hammer throw (9th) and the shot put. The junior enjoyed a Top 10 performance in the hammer with a toss of 49.80 meters (163'4"). The Bowie, Maryland native also took 13th place in the shot put with a throw of 12.87 meters (42' 2 3/4 "). 

Sophomore sprinter Genelle Stephens placed in the Top 20 in the 400 dash with a time of 55.29, which was good for 16th place. 

The Retrievers' 4 x400 relay placed 11th overall with a time of 3:46.57. Junior Leanne McDonald, Stephens, junior Shannel Sibblies, and sophomore Dalyce Schmidt comprised the group.
