BALTIMORE -- The UMBC Baseball team rallied from an early 7-0 deficit and then held on late to defeat visiting Delaware State on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
A day after setting a new a NCAA record by getting hit by a pitch 12 times, the Retrievers drew nine, with
Luke Buscaglia getting hit three times and
Jesiah Carpenter getting plunked twice. The Dawgs also stole seven bases, led by
Matthew Best's three.
Sam Bell was stellar in relief, working 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out five, walking one and allowing just win hit to pick up his first career victory and keep UMBC in the game.
Chris Ho worked a career-high 3.0 innings, allowing just an unearned run before
Ethan Ianni got out of a jam in the ninth to secure his first career save.
Kyle Eddington led the way on offense, going 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored, while
Leewood Molessa went 1-for-2 with three RBI and three walks. Carpenter, Buscaglia,
Danny Wyatt and
Danny Orr also drove in runs for UMBC. Best and
Nico Ong each scored three runs as well.Â
UMBC travels to NJIT for a three game America East series that begins on Friday morning at 11 a.m.
