Haley Luginbill went 5-for-6 with a homer, double and 3 RBI on Friday to open up tournament play against Ohio State and No.10 Georgia.
The Retrievers dropped both games, 10-2, in five innings.Â
Against the Buckeyes, Luginbill put UMBC up 1-0 in the first with an RBI double to score
Ella Squaires, who went 2-for-2. Luginbill went 2-for-3 in the contests while,
Emily Riggs,
Erin Behel and
Amya Lundy also had hits for the Retrievers.
In the nightcap against the Bulldogs, Luginbill hit a first inning solo homer and then drove in pinch-runner
Mikayla Bryant with an RBI single in the fifth. Squaires went 2-for-3 in the game, while
Meghan Shirey singled and
Skyler Smith picked up her first career hit.Â
UMBC is back in action on Saturday when it faces Stetson at 10:30 a.m. followed by a 6 p.m. rematch with Ohio State
