Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season at League Leaders UAlbany and Vermont

The UMBC Women's Basketball team looks to close out the regular season on the road at UAlbany on Thursday at 6:30pm and at Vermont on Saturday at 2pm. The Retrievers (14-12, 7-7 AE) are currently ranked fifth in the conference.

Last time out, the Retrievers lost 83-65 at NJIT on Saturday afternoon. Jaden Walker led the offense, recording a double-double and setting a career high 22 points with 11 rebounds, four assists, and going 10-11 at the free throw line. Jaliena Sanchez had 15 points, and three rebounds. Talia Davis contributed 10 points and six rebounds, while Jordon Lewis had nine points and seven rebounds. 

Scouting UAlbany:
  • The UAlbany Great Danes (22-5, 12-2 AE) currently lead the conference and are on a three game winning streak with a recent 67-49 victory against New Hampshire.
  • Graduate student Kayla Cooper led the Great Danes with 22 points, shooting 9-for-14 from the field and adding five rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.
  • Cooper was also named the America East Player of the Week
  • Kaci Donovan followed with 10 points and six rebounds, while Lilly Phillips added eight points, including two three-pointers, while leading the team with three steals.
  • Jessica Tomasetti scored 10 points and recorded a team-high five assists.
  • The Retrievers handed UAlbany their first loss in conference earlier this season with a 71-59 victory at the Peake on Jan. 23.
  • UMBC led UAlbany the entire contest, marking the first time all season that the Great Danes did not hold a lead in the game. 

Scouting Vermont:
  • The Vermont Catamounts (16-12, 11-3 AE) are currently in second place in conference with a recent 57-35 win against UMass Lowell to close out their regular season road games.
  • Keira Hanson matched her season-high of 19 points in the victory.
  • The Catamounts had a season-high 12 steals and UMass Lowell committed 26 turnovers.
  • The Retrievers lost to the Catamounts, 67-44, on Jan. 25 at The Peake.
  • Sarah Ericson led Vermont with 15 points and matched a career-high with five made threes.
  • Catherine Gilwee had 12 points and the Catamounts had four scorers in double figures.
  • Walker led the Retrievers with 13 points and four rebounds while Lewis contributed 11 points and six rebounds in the loss.
