Women's Basketball Welcomes UMass Lowell to The Peake on Thursday; Heads to NJIT on Saturday

The UMBC Women's Basketball team looks to close out the regular conference season at home hosting UMass Lowell on Thursday at 6pm for its annual Pink Game and then heads to NJIT on Saturday for a 1pm game. 

Pink Headbands will be given out to fans in attendance at the game on Thursday. 

Last time out, the Retrievers won 75-67 on senior night at The Peake against the Bryant Bulldogs. Jaden Walker set a career high 21 points and had five rebounds, and two assists. Jordan Lewis had 19 points and six rebounds. Lewis was also named the America East Player of the Week on Monday. Carmen Yánez had 10 points going 3-3 from the three-point line. Talia Davis contributed eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in the victory.

Two days prior, the Retrievers fell at Binghamton, 58-48. Lewis had a season-high 20 points and contributed five rebounds. Walker had 10 points and seven rebounds, while Tiara Bellamy contributed six points and two steals coming off the bench for the Retrievers. Binghamton used eight threes to seal the victory Thursday evening.

Scouting UMass Lowell:
  • The Retrievers beat the River Hawks (3-21, 1-11 AE) in Lowell, Mass. on Feb. 1, 56-48.
  • The Retrievers started the game on an 18-0 run.
  • UMass Lowell is coming on a five game losing streak with a 62-55 loss against New Hampshire on Saturday.
  • Redshirt-senior Sydney Watkins contributed 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals, and one block.
  • Sophomore Rayne Durant recorded 10 points, three rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal.
  • Junior Sophie Baydanov totaled seven points in the loss.
  • The River Hawks are currently ranked last in the conference. 

Scouting NJIT:
  • The Retrievers fell to the Highlanders (10-16, 7-6 AE) on Jan. 9 at The Peake, 83-55.
  • The Highlanders outscored the Retrievers 48-21 in the second half to blow open a one point game at the half.
  • NJIT is coming off a 65-55 loss at Binghamton on Saturday.
  • Eight-time America East Rookie of the Week Olivia Kulyk led the team with 14 points and nine rebounds.
  • The reigning America East Player of the Week Alejandra Zuniga scored 10 points.
  • The Highlanders are currently in fourth place in the conference.
