Women’s Basketball Heads to Binghamton on Thursday, Hosts Bryant for Senior Night on Saturday

The UMBC Women's Basketball team looks to continue their four game winning streak as they head to Binghamton on Thursday for a 6 p.m. game. The Retrievers will return back home at The Peake for senior night to honor Yasmin Ott, Jaliena Sanchez, Riley Donahue, Jordon Lewis, Talia Davis, and Jaden Walker on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game against Bryant. 

Last time out, the team defeated America East Champion Maine, 71-53, on Saturday afternoon at The Peake. The Retrievers used strong defense and scored 22 fourth quarter points to extend the winning streak. Lewis led the offense with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Tiara Bellamy had a successful day with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Walker contributed 10 points and four rebounds. Davis contributed 11 points and eight rebounds, while Sanchez had nine points and two assists in the victory.

Two days prior, UMBC shut down New Hampshire, 51-32, as the Retrievers held the Wildcats to just four points in both the first and third quarters. The Retrievers forced 25 UNH turnovers and recorded a season-best five blocks. Lewis led the offense with 15 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Sanchez had 14 points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Davis had 10 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Walker recorded four points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks while Carmen Yanez had six points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. 

Scouting Binghamton:
  • The Retrievers fell to the Bearcats (12-12, 4-7 AE) for the America East opener earlier this season, 60-50.
  • Junior guard Kaia Goode scored a game-high 15 points and sophomore forward Kendall Bennett added 11 points in the victory. 
  • Binghamton is coming off a 68-62 loss at Bryant on Saturday.
  • Sophomore guard Bella Pucci led the Bearcats in scoring with 14 points and had five rebounds. 
  • Sophomore guard Leah Middleton netted 11 points to go along with a team-best seven rebounds.
Scouting Bryant:
  • The Retrievers won at Bryant (13-11, 6-5 AE) on January 30, 49-46.
  • Bryant led most of the game before Sanchez had the game-winning layup with 31 seconds to rally for the win.
  • Bryant is coming off a 68-62 win against Binghamton on Saturday.
  • Mia Mancini posted 18 points and Nia Scott recorded a 10 point and 12 rebound double-double in the victory.
  • Mimi Rubino also contributed 10 points
  • The Bulldogs never relinquished the lead
