BOSTON - After a stellar weekend in Florida, Kennedy Austin has been named America East Rookie of the Week. 

Named to the FIU Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team, Austin averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Retrievers. 

In just 21 minutes on Friday, Austin set a new career-high with 24 points while grabbing seven rebounds versus Florida International. She followed that performance up with nine points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals in just 14 minutes in a win over Presbyterian. 

Austin continues to get to the free-throw line at will, making 14-19 attempts over the two games in Florida. Austin currently ranks 13th in Division I with 42 free throws made. 

After a five-year gap without an America East Rookie of the Week, Austin is the second Retriever this season to earn the award. 

UMBC makes the short trip to Morgan State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
