Women's Basketball Snaps Skid; Defeats Presbyterian

MIAMI - UMBC (3-5) snapped a four-game skid, defeating Presbyterian (2-7), 68-48, on Sunday in the FIU Thanksgiving Classic Consolation Game.

Jade Tillman returned to the starting lineup and contributed a team-high 12 points and seven rebounds, leading four Retrievers in double figures. Heidi Williams, Maisie Crowley, and Lauren Thompson scored 10 apiece for UMBC.

Candice Hill put out a new starting five of Tillman, Heidi and Alaina Williams, Kennedy Austin, and Gabby Scott. The Retrievers would open the game on a 13-0 run before taking a 25-18 lead into the quarter break.

UMBC's defense ramped up in the second quarter, holding the Blue Hose to just 2-13 from the field, jumping out to a 15-point advantage at the break after a Tillman three put the Retrievers ahead 39-24.

A Heidi Williams three less than two minutes into the second half gave UMBC its first 20-point lead of the outing. Over the remaining 18 minutes, Presbyterian would fail to pull within 16 before the Retrievers closed out the 20-point win.

After a 24-point performance on Friday, Austin added nine points, three steals, and two assists, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

After four points and three rebounds in her first three appearances, Crowley exploded for 10 points and seven rebounds in 17 minutes of action. Thompson also had a season-best performance, making all four of her shots, including two threes.

UMBC will return to Baltimore and gear up for Saturday's contest at Morgan State. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
