DJ Armstrong Jr. was named America East Co-Player of the Week on Monday following his heroics in two victories against Morgan State and Wagner.
The guard made a remarkable step-back three-pointer with just one second remaining, leading UMBC to a thrilling 81-79 road victory over the Morgan State Bears at Hill Field House on Tuesday, November 11. With no timeouts left and trailing by a point, UMBC found Armstrong Jr., who skillfully crossed over his defender and executed the step-back shot from the right wing, clinching the win for the Retrievers.
On Sunday, Armstrong Jr. hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer in overtime, securing a 71-70 victory against the Wagner Seahawks at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. He received an inbounds pass with 1.8 seconds left, took one dribble to his right, and released an off-balance shot from the left wing, which found the net as time expired.
The Orlando, Florida native is currently averaging 14.0 points per game and has successfully converted 54 percent (13-for-24) of his three-point attempts through the first four games of the season.
