The UMBC Volleyball team looks to continue its winning ways when it heads to Rhode Island to face Bryant on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The two faced-off in Baltimore on October 5, and UMBC dropped the first two sets and found itself down 24-22 in the third set before mounting an incredible rally to defeat visiting Bryant in five sets (15-25, 15-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-4).
After the comeback in the third set, the Retrievers cruised the rest of the way, including opening the fifth by scoring the first 11 points of the set.Â
Jalynn Brown had a match-high 18 kills and added 11 digs, whileÂ
Claudia Llamas continued her stellar play by adding 13 kills, six blocks and four digs.Â
Jada James came off the bench in the second set and finished with a 10 kill and 13 dig double-double.Â
Laura Fuehrer had nine blocks and five kills, it is the fourth time this season that she has recorded at least nine blocks.
Izzy Ostvig added 21 assists and 12 digs, while fellow setterÂ
Serin Maden had 27 assists and four aces, and was the server during the decisive 11-0 run to start the fifth set.Â
Hannah Howard added 21 digs and three assists andÂ
Helen Frankovich tallied four kills on .500 hitting with four blocks.
Last time out, Fuehrer dominated the final two sets en route to a career-high 19-kill (.516 hitting) performance as the Dawgs snapped host Coppin State's 10-match winning streak in five sets (25-27, 25-19, 23-25, 25-13, 15-3) on Wednesday night.
Fuehrer was a perfect 4-for-4 in the final set and 6-of-10 (with no errors) in the final to sets to lead the rally. Brown was 3-for-3 in the final set as UMBC hit a perfect 1.000 on seven attacks in the dominating fifth set performance.Â
Brown was second on the team with 18 kills and added six digs and four aces. Frankovich tallied seven kills on .500 hitting with just one error and a match-best six blocks. Two Retrievers had double-doubles as Maden had 28 assists and 11 digs, whileÂ
Hannah Dobbs added 10 kills and 12 digs.Â
Ostvig had 22 assists, three digs, and three kills, and Howard had a team-best 16 digs, and Llamas tallied five digs and four blocks.
Ella McAllister chipped in with three digs, whileÂ
Ema Djordjevic added an ace and an assist.
Scouting Bryant:
- The Bulldogs host defending Champion New Hampshire on Friday night at 7 p.m.
- Bryant dropped a thrilling five-set match to the UAlbany Great Danes on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs won the first two sets but were unable to close out the match, with the Great Danes completing the reverse sweep.
- Arianna Ugolini recorded a game-high 23 kills.
- Madison Koeller finished with a game-high 51 assists.
- Carrina Barron posted a game-high 20 digs.
- Brookelyn Talmadge recorded a team-high four total blocks.
- Kaitlin Curran recorded a game-high five service aces.
- Ugolini now has five games with 20+ kills this season. She recorded her seventh double-double of the season, posting 23 kills and 10 digs.
- Koeller now has two games this season with 50+ assists. She recorded her eighth double-double of the season, posting 51 assists and 12 digs.
- Barron now has six games with 20+ digs this season.
