The UMBC Volleyball team returns to action this weekend with a pair of America East contests. The Retrievers will hit the road to face Binghamton on Friday at 6 p.m., before returning home to host Bryant at 2 p.m. on Sunday at The Peake.
Last time out,
Izzy Ostvig set a program record with her third-career triple double as the UMBC Volleyball team opened America East play with a four set win at NJIT (25-18, 25-18, 25-27, 25-13) last Friday night.
Ostvig tallied 33 assists, 11 kills on .375 hitting and 10 digs, while also adding three blocks and three aces.
Claudia Llamas led all players with 14 kills on .333 hitting, and
Laura Fuehrer continued her impressive sophomore campaign with 10 kills (.471 hitting) and nine blocks.
Overall, the Retrievers hit .321 in the match while holding the Highlanders to just .141 hitting and 27 errors.
Hannah Dobbs tallied 13 kills and career-best 18 digs,
Hannah Howard had a match-high 22 digs, and
Jalynn Brown added 11 kills, seven digs and six blocks. Helen Frankocivch contributed six kills (.308 hitting) and three blocks, while
Serin Maden picked up 23 assists and a pair of digs.
Molly Penn came of the bench and accumulated three digs and an ace.
Howard was named the Defensive Specialist of the Week, while Ostvig earned Setter of the Week.
Scouting Binghamton:
- BU won the first set against in-state rival Colgate Tuesday night, but the Bearcats were ultimately defeated by the Raiders 3-1 at the Events Center.
- Colgate took the non-conference match 20-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-21.
- Both Viktoria Dimitrova and Merima Smajlovic led Binghamton with 12 kills each.
- Smajlovic also posted a team-high 17 digs for her ninth double double of the season.
- Alexandra Koleva, meanwhile, recorded 19 assists for Binghamton.
- Additionally, Selestine Liu Asomua added a career-high four total blocks in her fifth collegiate match
Scouting Bryant:
- Bryant continued its stretch of dominance on Wednesday night by sweeping defending America East champion UNH
- The Bulldogs have now won seven out of their last eight matches.
- It was their first road win in Durham since 2011.
- Arianna Ugolini tallied a game-high 15 kills.
- Madison Koeller recorded a game-high 32 assists.
- Brookelyn Talmadge recorded a game-high 6 total blocks.
- Carrina Barron finished with a game-high 17 digs.
- Nina Gavin, Kaitlin Curran, and Carrina Barron tied for a game-high three service aces.
