Volleyball Hosts UAlbany on Saturday for Annual Pink Match

The UMBC Volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of The Peake when it hosts UAlbany on Saturday at 1 p.m. for its annual Pink Match. The first 300 fans will receive a free pink UMBC t-shirt. 

Last time out, Jalynn Brown had 22 kills on .333 hitting and Helen Frankovich added 11 kills on .421 hitting with seven blocks as the Dawgs won a tense five-setter at defending America East champion New Hampshire (25-27, 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 15-8) on Sunday afternoon. 

Claudia Llamas continued her stellar play with 12 kills, five digs and two blocks, Hannah Dobbs added nine kills and seven digs, and Laura Fuehrer tallied eight kills and two blocks. 

Serin Maden had three aces and a double-double with 28 assists and 10 digs, while Izzy Ostvig stuffed the stat sheet with 24 assists, seven digs, three kills and three blocks. 

Hannah Howard had a match-high 16 digs to go with seven assists and a pair of aces, while Ema Djordjevic added a pair of digs and a block in the victory

Brown was named the America East Player of the Week for the first time in her career after she finished with 36 kills on .349 hitting for the week (4.00 kills per set), including 22 kills on .333 hitting in the win at New Hampshire on Sunday. Also added seven blocks, three aces and 10 digs.

Howard earned her fourth America East Defensive Specialist of the Week honor of the season after she had a match-high 16 digs to go with seven assists and a pair of aces in the win at New Hampshire, and set a career-high with 6 aces and five assists in the win at Howard.

Scouting UAlbany:
  • The Great Danes picked up an impressive non-conference road win on Tuesday morning as they defeated Patriot League leaders Colgate, 3-1, at Cotterell Court.
  • Graduate outside hitter Shynelle Woroniuk led UAlbany with 21 kills on .320 hitting, adding 11 digs and 1 ace.
  • Redshirt-junior middle blocker Gabriella Karman hit .588 with 11 kills, 4 blocks, and 3 aces.
  • Senior outside hitter Anna Myhal added 10 kills on .241 hitting with 17 digs and 2 aces.
  • Senior middle blocker Tori Wilson recorded 8 kills on .583 hitting and 1 block assist.
  • Graduate setter Maria Olga Siapani posted 46 assists, 10 digs, and 1 ace while hitting .556.
  • Sophomore defensive specialist Kasia Barletta anchored the back row with 23 digs and 3 aces.
