Women's Basketball Welcomes UAlbany to The Peake for Annual Midday Madness Game Thursday; Host Vermont on Saturday

The UMBC Women's Basketball team welcomes league-leading UAlbany on Thursday morning in its annual Midday Madness game where nearly 2,000 elementary and middle school students will come to The Peake for the contest.The Retrievers will then host Vermont on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Last time out,  Talia Davis led the Retrievers with a career high 18 points and Jaden Walker set a career high six assists to go with seven points and seven rebounds, but the UMBC Women's Basketball team dropped a 61-47 contest at defending America East champion Maine on Saturday afternoon. 

Lauren Thompson contributed nine points while Jordon Lewis added six points and six rebounds.

Scouting UAlbany:
  • The Great Danes used a consistent offense and true teamwork to surpass 70 points in a 24-point victory over Binghamton last Saturday. UAlbany improved to 16-3, 6-0 America East.
  • Graduate student Kayla Cooper led with 20 points and seven assists while shooting 9-16 from the field.
  • Fellow graduate student Kaci Donovan notched her first career double-double with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
  • Two additional Great Danes totaled at least 10 points - graduate student Lilly Phillips (11) and senior Meghan Huerter (10).
  • Freshman Delanie Hill added five assists and a team-high two steals.
  • As a team, UAlbany totaled 24 assists while shooting 50% from the field.
  • Martina Borrellas earned her second Rookie of the Week award on Monday after the third consecutive 2-0 week for the Great Danes.
  • Leading the team with 1.5 steals per game, the Barcelona native collected 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 points per game while shooting nearly 50% from the field. In a week that saw her career-high in steals (3) at Bryant, she added two assists and one block throughout two games.
Scouting Vermont
  • Keira Hanson led the scoring for Vermont (9-10, 4-1 AE) as they defeated Binghamton last Thursday.
  • Hanson led the Catamounts in scoring with 14 points and matched a season-high with four made threes. Priede was second, and Vito was third with 13 and eight, respectively.
  • Ericson led Vermont in rebounds with a season-high 10, Lenz was second and matched her career high of nine, and Priede and Vito were tied for third with six each.
  • They also had a season-high 41 rebounds as a team.
  • Gilwee led the Catamounts on the floor with four assists, while Vito and Olson each had three.
  • Olson had a season-high in blocks with three and matched a season-high in steals with two.
  • The win improves Vermont to 9-2 when holding opponents under 60 points. It gives the Catamounts their first win of the season when scoring under 60 points.
