The UMBC Volleyball team turns its attention to Conference play as it opens its America East slate at NJIT on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Last time out, seniorÂ
Mia Bilusic continued her torrid output, as she had 12 kills .550 hitting with only one error, but the UMBC Volleyball lost at #1 Pittsburgh (10-0) on Wednesday night (25-17, 25-15, 25-14). Bilusic also added a match-best six digs and added a block and an ace in the effort.
No.1 Pitt has yet to lose a set this season.
FreshmanÂ
Hannah Dobbs tied Bilusic for the match-high with 12 kills and a block. SeniorÂ
Mila Ilieva had four kills on .500 hitting with one error, and led the team with two blocks. Junior setterÂ
Serin Maden had 17 assists, while freshmanÂ
Izzy Ostvig added 13 assists and a block.
Graduate studentÂ
Aysia Miller notched five digs and two assists, andÂ
Hannah Howard tallied four digs.Â
Abby Erickson andÂ
Helen Frankovich finished with two kills each, with Erickson adding a block.
Miller was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week, the Conference announced on Tuesday morning.Â
Miller averaged a league-best 4.8 digs/set, including a career-high 32 against High Point last Friday.
Scouting NJIT:
- The Highlanders recently finished participating in the "Delaware State Tournament". They played George Washington first on September 20th and were swept
- They then played Harvard and Delaware State in a doubleheader and lost those games as wellÂ
- Freshman hitter Ema Torres has made an immediate impact, she is currently leading the team in kills with 101, while junior Libero Doga Emil leads her team in digs with 212, more than double than anybody else on the team
- Freshman setter Finley McAndrew is leading the team in assists with 254
